Statement of the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on the 2025 International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
On this occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 November), on behalf of the Government and People of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, I would like to extend to Your Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, and through Your Excellency, to the Government and People of the State of Palestine, our warmest congratulations and greetings of friendship and solidarity. The annual commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People reflects the collective support of the international community and underlines the importance and urgency of seeking a lasting solution to the question of Palestine and of addressing the plight of the Palestinian people who live through the untold suffering and humiliation for more than half of century. The Lao People’s Democratic Republic strongly supports the engagement of many world leaders and calls on the parties concerned to return to the peace talks for two-states solution as soon as possible. It is important that the engagement of the international community be sustained, to make sure that the parties live up to their commitments, negotiate in good faith and refrain from taking steps which will jeopardize the peace negotiations. In this regard, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic joins the international community in renewing our call for the occupying Power to immediately cease all its unlawful occupation of the Palestinian territory, place a complete and permanent freeze on all illegal settlement activities, and respond favourably and in good faith to the international consensus, in order to create an environment more conducive for the pursuit of peace and security as well as salvaging the prospects of achieving the two-states solution as soon as possible, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions and international law. Towards this end, the Lao PDR reaffirms its steadfast commitment to and support for the independence and sovereignty of the State of Palestine and for the Palestinian people in their legitimate pursuit of dignity, justice, and their inalienable right to selfdetermination in an independent and viable State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace, security, and mutual harmony with the State of Israel, within internationally recognized borders.
