Statement of the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the lnternational Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People 2025.

President of Sri Lanka.

On the occasion of the lnternational Day of Solidarity with the people of Palestine, I express the unwavering support of the Government and people of Sri Lanka for the inalienable rights of the people of Palestine to self.'determination and an independent State of Palestine. After witnessing the unimaginable human suffering for two years, the recent ceasefire in Gaza has offered a glimmer of renewed hope. The hardships endured by the people of Palestine since the escalation of violence in Gaza since 2023 urged the intervention of the international community to end this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. Aggression will only undermine the tireless efforts by all stakeholders to end this mayhern. Diplomacy is the only catalyst for achieving sustainable peace. ln this backdrop, I extend my appreciation to the President of the United States of America and to the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the Republic of TUrkiye for their mediation efforts, as well as to other nations who have contributed to reaching the first phase of ceasefire at the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit held on 13 October 2025. Notwithstanding the ceasefire, provocative actions by the parties concerned have resulted in the tragic loss of hundreds of innocent lives. On this significant day, in the name of humanity, we reiterate the urgent need to adhere to the provisions of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement to ensure a lasting peace in Gaza. Sri Lanka reiterates its unwavering support for a negotiated settlement, in line with relevant UN resolutions, leading to a two-state solution based on the L967 borders. On behalf of the Government and People of Sri Lanka, I reaffirm our continued support for efforts in upholding the legitimate and inalienable right of the Paleshnian people to statehood Democratic Socialist Renublic of Sri Lanka
